Natural Gas Fueled Automobiles Back to Blog
Will it ever work? Probably yes, but maybe not in my lifetime. Small progress has been made with airport ground transportation and municipal government fleets. Private companies have invested millions in developing natural gas fired engines for the automobile industry without much profit success however. Chicken & egg problem? Probably. A significant number of refueling stations will be necessary for consumers of gas fired cars and trucks to use. As of now, builders of such refueling stations await the manufacture and sale of significant numbers of gas fired automobiles. To add to the dismal prospect of a new gas fired industry is the release of several new models of electric cars by large automobile manufacturers. Consumers across the nation appear more interested in these new cars versus the natural gas variety. Is it because “Greenees” seem to think the electrical market is more beneficial to the planet than natural gas? Probably. But, ask any one of them how a significant amount of electricity is made and their answer usually doesn’t even mention the use of natural gas. But considering the current lower price of natural gas, what better time would it be to energize this new industry with natural gas motors.
