Barnett Shale Declining Very Little Back to Blog
The Barnett Shale’s natural gas production might be declining slower than many expected, but declining it is, to less than 5 billion cubic feet a day in recent months. According to the Texas Railroad Commission, the Barnett peaked at 6.3 billion cubic feet a day in November 2011. The Barnett’s output was reported as 5.2 bcf a day in June, 2013 and it stayed above 5 bcf until December, 2013, when it slid to 4.84 bcf a day. According to information complied by our company, WellReports.com, drilling permits in 2014 thus far for the E NEWARK(BRNT SHALE) total 352 wells. Although some in the public believe drilling in the Barnett died off in 2009, a relatively significant number of wells are still being permitted. Industry sources tell us a natural gas price above $5.00 per MMBtu would bring the rigs back to North Texas. The June 2014 Nymex price was reported at $4.62 per MMbtu. Wellhead prices, net transportation and other costs, is obviously lower to producers, but Barnett Shale growth is expected in the next 2-4 years.
